It’s settled science: developing skilled readers can enhance students’ lives. This workshop focuses on strategies to develop skilled readers by examining two critical aspects: word recognition and language comprehension. Word recognition includes strands such as phonological awareness, sight word recognition, and a systematic approach to phonics and decoding. Language comprehension includes strands such as vocabulary, morphological awareness, critical thinking, and verbal reasoning.
