Please read the following information regarding CE requirements:

Certificates of attendance are suitable for use to meet professional development requirements for educators and clinicians. Attendees can earn up to 20 contact hours of credit by attending the five-day institute. See details on the number of hours and types of credit below.

In order to receive any professional development credits, you must fill out the evaluation/learning outcomes questionnaire and leave the form with institute staff. Certificates will be emailed to you 2-3 weeks after the institute.

Making Mindfulness Stick in Your School

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

SLP participants will be able to:
 

  • Illustrate practical ways to integrate mindfulness into the school day
  • Describe the basic physiology and neuroscience of mindfulness
  • List multiple methods of adapting mindfulness to a range of ages and backgrounds and for specific mental health and learning issues
  • Create your own customized mindfulness scripts
  • Integrate mindfulness into academics, athletics, and various grades and clinical settings
  • Develop best practices to build a schoolwide mindfulness program while managing student and staff resistance

 

Christopher Willard, PsyD is a psychologist, teacher at Harvard Medical School, and an educational consultant specializing in mindfulness. He has been practicing meditation for 20 years, and leads workshops nationally and internationally. Dr. Willard currently serves on the board of directors at the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy, and is the president of the Mindfulness in Education Network. He has presented at TEDx conferences and his thoughts have appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, mindful.org, and elsewhere. He is the author of Raising Resilience (2017), Growing Up Mindful (2016), and Child's  Mind (2010).

Mitch Abblett, PhD is a clinical psychologist and consultant in private practice in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He recently served as the Executive Director of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy, a non-profit focusing on the education and training at the intersection of mindfulness and treatment. For over a decade prior, he was the Clinical Director of the Manville School, a Harvard-affiliated therapeutic day school program in Boston, serving children with emotional, behavioral, and learning difficulties.

Credits for Educators: State Department of Education:

PIRI is able to provide credits that qualify for the education departments in most states and are accepted by most districts. You may wish to check whether your state's Department of Education requires a special approved provider status. PIRI is a specifically approved provider in the Departments of Education in the states of CT, TX, GA, and NY.

Credits for Psychologists and School Psychologists:
Public Information Resources, Inc. (PIRI) is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. PIRI maintains responsibility for the program. Psychologists and school psychologists must complete the evaluation form in their program book in order to receive credits. This program will provide 20 hours of CEs.

Credits for School Social Workers:

Upon request Learning & the Brain, can apply for 17.5  Category I credits to social workers through the Collaborative of the National Association of Social Workers - MA Chapter (NASW-MA)  and both the Boston College and the Simmons College Schools of Social Work. **Please check with your state chapter to ensure that these credits are applicable to your state standards. ***If you wish to receive these credits, please reach out in advance of the conference so that we can apply.

Certificate of Attendance:
