Educators know that emotional engagement is critical in their classrooms - and for remote learning, but how can we intentionally design instruction for emotions and get to rigorous learning? In this online seminar, you will explore how the brain's emotion networks are critical to learning and cognition. You will learn practical strategies, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), that can make a real difference for student learning. In addition, you will brainstorm how these strategies can be integrated into daily routines and practices to support rigorous, meaningful learning opportunities for all students. Through interactive discussions, you will gain strategies to design learning environments that support and value the full range of emotions in our classrooms and deepen the learning opportunities for every student.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will:

  • Discover how emotions influence all aspects of learning, including attention and memory
  • Gain strategies to designed to support the full range of student emotions that exist in a classroom, including stress, anxiety, and disengagement
  • Try new tools and resources to encourage building a shared language for emotion that can be used for learning, including Universal Design for Learning and the Mood Meter
  • Adapt strategies to apply directly to your own classrooms – including remote learning environments
  • Learn more about your own learning and emotions as well as your students
