To those of us who understand the critical role executive skills play in supporting learning, getting schools to incorporate executive skills support in general education classrooms seems like a “no-brainer.” To the lone educator, though, this effort is easier said than done. This session will present ways that individual educators (teachers, administrators, support staff) can bring executive skills to their schools either organically or systemically, one classroom, one grade level, one department, or one school at a time.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will be able to:
Be able to define 3 approaches to integrating executive skills into the work of schools: 1) introducing EF skills informally or organically; 2) strategically embedding EF skills into classroom routines and instruction; and 3) incorporating EF skills into system level structures such as MTSS.
Be able to give examples of ways to support executive skills in the classroom informally, strategically, and systemically.
Understand the need to incorporate both uniformity and autonomy when incorporating executive skill support in schools.
