Increasingly, there are calls to support the literacy development of the “whole child” by considering also their social-emotional development, cultural context, and profile of (dis)abilities. But what does this actually look like in schools, reading classrooms, and at home? What does the latest research from neuroscience, psychology, and education tell us about how to build reading skills in the whole child? In this webinar, Dr. Gotlieb will show how the development of reading and social-emotional skills are coordinated, individually variable, dynamic and sensitive to contextual influences. You will leave with an understanding of important principles to meet the needs of diverse emerging readers, including how to use culturally inclusive, emotionally responsive and developmentally appropriate instructional practices that align with the latest evidence from the science of reading.
