As educators, we see the struggle. Even within the same classroom, some students—though not always the same ones—engage readily because learning feels meaningful and achievable. At the same time, other students may disengage, resist instruction, or express frustration through statements such as “I’m bored” or “I hate school.” These responses are not a reflection of ability, but of how the learning experience is processed. Importantly, this pattern can be changed through intentional instructional practice.

This webinar provides sustained, evidence-informed professional learning focused on strengthening teacher effectiveness through a neuroscience-based understanding of how sensitive learners process instruction. Participants will examine why commonly used instructional strategies may fail for some students and will learn how to calibrate classroom language and internal student messaging so that it is goal-directed, supportive, and aligned with how the brain learns. Grounded in research on cognitive processing and self-regulation, this session equips educators with  immediately applicable strategies that can be integrated into daily instruction.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will be able to:
Learn how mental models are critical for high engagement
Discover how to bookmark the learning brain for success in future learning
Understand how ANS ("Autonomic Nervous System") reactivity solves the child who struggles
Strengthen the learning brain by rewiring with intention

Kieran O'Mahony, PhD, FRGS, BcID

Dr. O’Mahony is an internationally renowned keynote speaker author and teacher who has revolutionized the world of learning with his research and writings that connect Neuroscience with Teaching & Learning. His pedagogical model is designed for non-linear exponential learning. As Co-Principal Investigator on NIH “How Do I Learn”, he initiated neuroscience education for mental wellbeing. Winner of the Pathfinder Award for educational innovation and WASA Prize for teacher professional development and industry talent advancement. He has revolutionized workplace talent development and HR practices by application of his ground-breaking research into how the human brain works and how people interact in the world through social context. He splits his time between adult learning interventions and solving K12 learning systems in a post pandemic world that is the epitome of reform. As a change agent for learning and talent development his philosophic principles stem from the knowledge that all people can be liberated into their true potential. As founder of Neural Education, the Institute for Connecting Neuroscience with Teaching and Learning, he is passionate about human potential through a neural lens.
