Future-Proof Brains

FUTURE-PROOF STUDENTS BY TEACHING DURABLE, LIFE-LONG SKILLS

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into education and daily life, researchers are raising concerns about cognitive off-loading or “cognitive surrender”—the tendency to rely on technology to perform thinking tasks that humans once did themselves. Studies show that overreliance on digital tools can reduce memory retention, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, and that the capacity for independent reasoning may gradually erode with disuse. Yet, according to the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, analytical thinking remains the most sought-after skill among employers, while resilience, flexibility, agility, creative thinking and imagination, innovation, curiosity, lifelong learning, and leadership are among the fastest-growing and most valued skills for the future workforce. To prepare students for an uncertain and rapidly changing world, educators must future-proof students and learning by strengthening the uniquely human capacities that AI cannot replace. The Conference will bring together leading neuroscientists, psychologists, researchers, AI experts, and educators to examine evidence-based strategies for co-thinking with AI and cultivating the human, durable, cognitive soft skills needed for future success: mental flexibility; creativity; innovation and entrepreneurship; imagination, curiosity, and wonder; analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving, communication and co-collaboration, and personalized, life-long learning. Discover how to future-proof your brain, schools, and students.
