The reading wars debate has continued for decades. Influencers and companies frequently make strong claims, as to what matters most for reading instruction. However, the instructional practices that are promoted as evidence-based are not always well researched. In this lecture, I will discuss the importance of using meta-analysis for determining what is evidence-based and the pedagogies that have the strongest research evidence.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will be able to understand:
Why meta-analysis is important
How to interpret meta-analysis data
What reading pedagogies are the most evidence-based
What is best practice for the 6 pillars of literacy instruction

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This seminar is applicable to K-12 general and special education teachers and reading specialists.
