Please read the following information regarding CE requirements:

Certificates of attendance are suitable for use to meet professional development requirements for educators and clinicians. Attendees can earn up to 20 contact hours of credit by attending the five-day institute. See details on the number of hours and types of credit below.

In order to receive any professional development credits, you must fill out the evaluation/learning outcomes questionnaire and leave the form with institute staff. Certificates will be emailed to you 2-3 weeks after the institute.

You can also receive additional credits by writing a paper on how you applied what you learned. For more details and questions, contact the CE Director, Kristin Dunay at (781) 449-4010 ext. 104.

Neuroscience and Executive Functions: Strategies for Executive Skills, Memory and Classroom Learning

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

SLP participants will be able to:

  • Evaluate the executive functions from the perspectives of neuroscience
  • Discuss ways to stimulate the developing neural networks of executive functions in learners of all ages
  • Analyze information gained from formative and summative assessments to enhance learning for students and instructional success for teachers
  • List ways to guide students to use and build skills of metacognition and long-term memory formation
  • Describe methods to promote multisensory learning experiences that benefit all brains
  • Connect neuroscience research to planning student-constructed and project-based learning that develops understanding and long-term, transferable concept memory

Judy Willis, MD, MEd, is a neurologist and credentialed teacher. She has combined her training in neuroscience and neuroimaging with her teacher education training and years of classroom experience. Dr. Willis is an authority in the field of learning-centered brain research and teaching strategies derived from this research and has spoken at national and international educational conferences. Dr. Willis has written six books on this topic, contributed extensively to educational journals and conducts interactive professional development workshops throughout the United States and internationally.  Financial disclosure – Dr. Willis is receiving a speaking fee for her presentation. She is an author with ASCD for which she receives royalty payments. Non-financial disclosure – Dr. Willis has no relevant non-financial relationships to disclose.

Malana Willis, MEd, teaches elementary school in Santa Barbara, CA. Previously she taught elementary school in Oakland, CA for over five years, taught at the American School of Bilbao in Spain and worked at the UCSB Autism Clinic. She received her Masters Degree in Education and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from UC Berkeley and her BA in psychology from Williams College. Financial disclosure – Ms. Willis is receiving a speaking fee for her presentation. Credits for Educators: State Department of Education:

PIRI is able to provide credits that qualify for the education departments in most states and are accepted by most districts. You may wish to check whether your state's Department of Education requires a special approved provider status. PIRI is a specifically approved provider in the Departments of Education in the states of CT, TX, GA, and NY.

Credits for Psychologists and School Psychologists:
Public Information Resources, Inc. (PIRI) is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for psychologists. PIRI maintains responsibility for the program. Psychologists and school psychologists must complete the evaluation form in their program book in order to receive credits. This program will provide 20 hours of CEs.

 

Credits for School Social Workers:
Public Information Resources, Inc., has applied for up to 20 Category I credits to social workers through the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) collaborative through both the Boston College and the Simmons College Schools of Social Work.

Certificate of Attendance: 
Public Information Resources, Inc. will provide a certificate of attendance for 20 hours for participation in this program.
