  • A detailed description of the characteristics of the mindset and actions of engaged, 
    motivated, resilient students
  • A beginning discussion of “motivating environments”

12 Noon -12:45 PM: Lunch

12:45 PM - 2:45 PM:

  • Two theories of motivation
  • A review of Attribution Theory
  • A review of Self-Determination Theory (SDT)
  • Small group discussion about implementing strategies in schools based upon
    Attribution Theory and SDT
     

Thursday, July 30

8:00 AM-12 Noon:

  • The characteristics of schools that promote student engagement
  • A beginning discussion of the mindset and actions of educators who are effective in nurturing intrinsic motivation, engagement, and resilience in students

12 Noon - 12:45 PM: Lunch

12:45 PM -2:45 PM:

  • Continued discussion of the mindset and actions of educators who are effective in nurturing intrinsic motivation, engagement, and resilience in students
  • Small group exercise related to empathy and empathic communication
     

Friday, July 31


7:30 AM - 8:00 AM: Continental breakfast

8:00 AM - 12:15 PM:

  • A description of a framework and strategies to increase “stress hardiness” and lessen burnout in educators
  • Small group discussion focusing on action plans to implement what was learned in the Institute in each participant’s school
